Matte Painting | 3D Generalist Showreel_2018_Irena Smitakova

0:04 - 0:17 _ Brief for this shot was to change live action footage to different weather season. Day to night, Autumn to early winter and winter. In collaboration with Claudia Diaz, who was responsible for tracking, I took first (widest) frame of the shot, moved to Photoshop, where I within levels changed day to night. With overpaint, I painted lights into the windows. For winter change, I took soft brush with scattering, chose two variety of grey and blue colour, and painted each area to create the most realistic look. In Maya, within point cloud, I was able to build geo, on which I later projected separate renders from Photoshop. In addition I created patch projections and trees, to avoid very visible stretching in the front of the scene. With Mari I cloned and painted areas where the snow was missing.

0:28 - 0:45 _ Final Major Project where I mainly wanted to provide knowledge of advanced matte painting technique and projection mapping. All models, textures and reference images are mine, same as concept of the barber shop and of the entire scene. Detailed breakdown on my ArtStation blog soon.

0:46 - 1:08 _ Extension and practise of changing day to night scene

1:09 - 1:21 _ Personal project made for practise. Changing weather, from cloudy to sunny and also I created set extension of the building and closed the road, that I later projected in Nuke on simple geo and composited (roto, cleanup) final elements.

1:22 - 1:20 _ Victorian piece was one of my favourite work in terms of creating 3D texturing and lighting. I wrote down story and based on that I created basic layout, placed Geo (Kitbash3D), and based on real reference I textured all buildings and within V-ray I lighted the scene and rendered layers that was later imported to photoshop, where I overpainted the ground, signs on the buildings and details in windows.

1:34 - 1:42 _ This was my submission was MattePaint competition in December 2017, where based on given references we had to create winter landscape or any piece related to winter. I decided to create this hill with beacons, inspired by The Lord of the Rings. Then I rendered layers from photoshop to Nuke, and created this multiple projections within coverage projection.
